Crop Weather Analysis
The Crop Weather Analysis function on the STARGATE platform helps farmers make informed decisions before and after planting. It has three main sections: Risk Selection (choose risk type, e.g., Drought), Season Selection (define start and end dates), and Details (specify location, crop type, and elevation). An Advanced Settings panel allows further customization of diagrams, including adding custom stages. The panel also includes the subsections from the Crop Risk Analysis function for more tailored settings.

The following graphs are examples of crop weather risk monitoring and prediction diagrams for drought risk (Picture #1), frost risk (Picture 2), and heat risk (Picture 3) in the current season at a selected location, based on a 7-day and a seasonal forecast.

The horizontal axis shows cumulated GDD from the planting date, while the colour bar indicates the growth stages of the selected crop. The blue curve tracks available soil water, daily minimum/maximum temperatures, and the magenta curve provides a 7-day forecast. Tan curves show seasonal forecasts, and black/grey curves represent weather behavior over reference periods. The grey area shows two standard deviations of past 35 years’ data, helping users compare the current year with high/low yield years.
The vertical axis displays the weather variable driving the selected event (temperature or soil water). Background colours represent risk levels, with likelihood increasing as the weather variable approaches the event threshold. This model helps users identify when thresholds are crossed and assess the risk of weather events on crops at specific growth stages.
